Asthma in ten questions
The different forms of asthma
Well manage your asthma, it changes your life!
The mechanism of asthma
Asthma is a disease of the bronchi which, during crises, causes difficulties to inspire and especially to exhale air from the lungs. Seizures can be triggered by various factors such as stress, humidity, dust, cigarette smoke, pollen, etc. Today, an asthmatic can live normally as long as he is well treated and well informed. This information requires a good understanding of the disease.

Asthma is not contagious. You can become asthmatic at any age.
A real oppression
The inspired air reaches the pulmonary alveoli and brings to the blood the oxygen that is vital to us. In a healthy person, inspiration and exhalation require no special effort. For the asthmatic in crisis, these movements are extremely difficult. The discomfort is usually accompanied by a whistling sound during exhalation, which attests to the narrowing of the bronchi. The air is then trapped in the chest. The chest is blocked, an itchy cough tries to reject the mucus that accumulates in the bronchi, and a deep feeling of anxiety and oppression seizes the patient.

Lungs in crisis
There are three mechanisms that explain the obstruction of overhead ducts:
During the crisis, the bronchial muscle contracts: it is bronchoconstriction;
The wall of the bronchus thickens: it is edema;
The internal wall secretes important mucus: it is hypersecretion.
bronchi
These last two phenomena constitute bronchial inflammation. Feel little felt by the patient, it is nevertheless the bottom of the problem. After the attack, more or less late depending on the allergen, some blood cells are attracted to the bronchial tubes to destroy the aggressor. To do this, it releases toxic products that, paradoxically, maintain the bronchial inflammation and facilitate the occurrence of new crisis. This bronchial inflammation must therefore be treated seriously to prevent the disease from progressing to chronicity.

The frequency and severity of symptoms vary among individuals. Some may be occasional, others persistent. Today, the many therapeutic advances allow patients to control the signs of asthma in almost all cases.
